"Architecture is Frozen Music" - Frank Zappa
One of my favorite projects is the Pickford Film Center. Located in an old, early 20th Century Mission style building, the goal was to create two theaters in a footprint of only 50' x 125'. In addition, there was to be a lobby with a café to encourage early arrivals and staying late. My solution was to install the theaters on one side of the building, back-to-back sharing a common projection room. That left space for a lobby, café and restrooms on the other side of the building. The old brick and pressed tin ceiling was left exposed in the lobby, creating a very warm and inviting atmosphere. This project instantly became the hub of Bellingham's Arts District, and has been recognized with a Mayor's Arts Award.
